“Pearl River,” the title track of his 2009 album for the label, won Song of the Year at the Blues Music Awards and marked his first collaboration with Cyril Neville, with whom he’d later work in the Royal Southern Brotherhood. He initially released his music independently and then signed with Eclecto Groove Records in 2008. He began playing guitar at the age of five, and by the time he reached his late teens, he was already a fixture on the local St. “Anders (Osborne) told me early on, ‘If you don’t believe what you’re singing, you’ll never be a good singer.’ I try not to write fluff I try to make every word count.” Naturally, patience and perseverance have been Zito’s stock and trade since the beginning. “I have nothing to hide it seems my honesty is what people relate to most,” he once told Vintage Guitar magazine. Those are the qualities that have steered Zito’s career since the beginning and continue to define every effort he’s offered since. About Mike Zito: Mike Zito is one of the most lauded artists in the contemporary blues arena today and rightfully so, but for him, the thing that counts the most is maintaining his honesty, authenticity and integrity. *This event is 21+ unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. All Premium Stage Bar Seats have a direct, unobstructed view of the stage, and a $25 food or beverage minimum. After 10 years I'm "one more in the crowd", hopefully one day I'll be a regular and noticed as such at The Funky Biscuit.*All reserved seats for this event are subject to a $25 food or beverage minimum. I'm not a fan of paying corkage fees, especially if I uncork my own bottle and serve it myself. Next time I would love to go there and spend my money purchasing Funky Biscuit's food and giving the server a hefty tip. That's why a large percentage of the country is already vaccinated and protected, seeing people laughing, dancing and enjoying life was the highlight of the night. ![]() ![]() The show started around 9:10 and it was a blast, the sound was great, lighting very good and the energy of Eric Darius super contagious! The house was packed with people maskless, might I add, which to me is a BLESSING. Going back to the Funky, we arrived around 8:30, we were guided to our table by one of the managers, she was attentive, our server Jacob was super fast, we got water without asking for it within minutes, and he was on top of all his tables the whole night. We both are wine collectors and I got the corkage fee waived in Louie Bossi's, so it's a win-win for us and the restaurant since our bills are always $200+ and we add the "corkage" into the server's tip. ![]() We went to Louie Bossi's Ristorante with a good friend and his wife that live in Boca for a wine-dinner. This time we changed our routine completely. We have always come for the early show and eaten here, their menu is not fancy but we always find a couple of appetizers, then I normally get the Mahi-mahi and we finish with their famous Funky-Biscuit as desert. Over the years the lighting and sound have improved big time, the service has fluctuated significantly, prior-COVID it was a team and after-COVID they are still finding the right-TEAM. ![]() As I mentioned in my previous review, I have been coming to The Funky Biscuit for over 10 years, at least 2 times every year and I don't do it more often because I live in Miami and it requires a 2+ hours drive and a hotel stay.
